We talked a lot about safety, especially triggered by Question 3 and Question 10. It seems like we all agreed that we try to be safe, not only physically but especially emotionally, and that we often try to do that by protecting ourselves from getting into the "wrong" relationships. However, we realized that it's not easy, and maybe not possible, to find out ahead of time who is and who is not "safe" for us emotionally; we need to give ourselves time and lots of experience to figure that out with any particular person.

Feel free to come and share your own personal insights sometime; the Saturday Night Video and Discussions here in Austin, Texas are a lot of fun and fascinating. (They're free, too.) Here are the questions the group came up with, based on the personal growth themes in the movie:

TATTOO: A LOVE STORY

  1. How can I avoid going through transitions painfully?
  2. What unreal reality am I accepting now?
  3. When have I ignored my own truth by following others?
  4. In what circumstances have I pretended to be someone I'm not, and what were the consequences?
  5. How have I handled it when I've been expected and pressured to be false to myself?
  6. How aware am I of the reasons my life turned out like it did?
  7. Why do I feel the need to control myself and others?
  8. How and when do I think I'm better than or know more than others?
  9. What do I imagine love to be, and how easy do I imagine it is? Is it what I imagine?
  10. How do I try to make myself safe in the world?
